How to draw a bubble letter I

Tip for I: Add small rounded caps at the top and bottom so the I does not look like a plain sausage.

  1. Write a plain I lightly in pencil. Leave a finger-width gap around it, because bubble letters grow.
  2. Draw a rounded outline around the pencil lines. Keep the same distance all the way round and turn every corner into a curve.
  3. Make the holes small and round. Tiny counters (the insides of A, B, O, P) make letters look puffed up.
  4. Erase the pencil and ink the outline with a black marker. Overlap neighbouring letters slightly for a chunky look.
  5. Add a 3D shadow and a shine. Thicken the bottom-right edge, then leave a small white highlight near the top-left.
